Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan presents check for $238 thousand to City for bike path project

Along with members of the Lafayette City Council, city staff, and representatives of the Acalanes Unified High School District, including new Acalanes High School principal Eric Shawn, Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan presented a check for $238 thousand in approved state funding to design and prepare for our “Safe Pathway to School” project.

In a press release issued by the assemblymember’s office, “the project, when constructed, will provide students and families with a safe method to walk or bicycle to and from school, during peak commute times, without having to cross dangerous on and off ramps to California Highway 24.”

Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan was first introduced to the project when project lead and Lafayette dad Eric Law brought the project idea to her attention.

“This project supports our goals to reduce emissions and collisions, while at the same time goes a long way towards keeping our students and their families safe,” Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan said.

During the check presentation, Lafayette Mayor Susan Candell reiterated that “the Lafayette City Council has made traffic safety a top priority in 2021 and this project is part of these efforts.”
